The Viper supports Intel AES instructions to enable fast hardware encryption and decryption of data processed through the board. Additionally, the Viper’s on-board Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security chip is included to provide enhanced system integrity and to defend against attacks from unauthorized software access. The TPM provides a secure processing environment for applications in defense, medical, and industrial applications that require hardware-level security functions by locking out unauthorized hardware and software access. Cybersecurity has become a major initiative in many industries such as Defense and Healthcare to protect from counterfeit hardware or unauthorized software. For example, in 2014, the United States Department of Defense (DoD) specified that "new computer assets procured to support DoD will include a TPM version 1.2 or higher where required by DISA STIGs and where such technology is available.“ The Viper supports two modes for the input voltage: a wide voltage input (9 to 15 V) or a 5 V typical input. Supporting the different input voltage options simplifies system power supply requirements. The wide input option is fully compatible with typical automotive (nominal 12 V) power systems. The 5 V input (default configuration) is compatible with most embedded power supplies that are used on legacy PC/104 platforms.
