With its expansive Input and Output capabilities, the Viper is able to consolidate multiple functions onto a single board. It can drastically reduce system cost when used to replace existing multi-board solutions. Here are some examples of current customer projects that utilize the power of the Viper’s rich feature set. This first example utilizes the Viper in an intelligent surgical system used to assist surgeons in providing patients with a better fit and less trauma to an affected area. The problem for this customer was the short product life of commercial computers used for the controller. This meant that the system had to be re-engineered and revalidated by the FDA every couple of years, causing delays and added expense. The solution was the VersaLogic Viper with a long product life of five to ten years, allowing for the necessary CPU performance with a rich set of I/O. Additionally, excess fan noise is a concern in operating rooms. The Viper, with an added heatsink, is able to operate without a fan. The next example is an autonomous vehicle upgrade used in mining applications. This product retro-fits standard vehicles to allow remote operations or full automation. The VersaLogic Viper’s on-board I/O capabilities prevent the need for additional expansion boards. In addition, VersaAPI, a free set of software interfaces, allow for faster development by providing the necessary drivers for all of the I/O devices used in this application. Viper provides a long-life EBX sized platform optimized for lower-power consumption. The final example is an intelligent fleet navigation system design to retrofit existing vessels without requiring dry dock. The problem the customer encountered was an End Of Life issue due to an obsolete CPU. The solution was the Viper with its long product life and reliability backed by VersaLogic’s quality and service.
