Z8 Encore! XP® Flash Microcontrollers

Zilog/Littelfuse's Z8 Encore! XP® series Z8F082A and Z8F042A devices feature up to eight, single ended/differential channels of sigma-delta 10-bit A/D conversion with buffered or unbuffered differential input and a transimpedance amplifier for current measurement. An on-chip temperature sensor allows die temperature measurement over a range of -40°C to +125°C. Also on-chip are two enhanced 16-bit timer blocks featuring capture/compare that allows the precise measurement of system events and generates two independent PWM outputs. The devices support up to 18 vectored interrupts with programmable priorities, effectively increasing CPU bandwidth and increasing application flexibility. The single-pin debugger allows for easy in-circuit programming, making it possible to create designs faster and easier.

For peripheral support features like the full-duplex UART for serial communications and IrDA encoding/decoding capability are available. The UARTs can be programmed as a basic 16-bit timer as well. The on-chip internal precision oscillator (5 MHz/32 kHz) can serve as a trimmable clock source that requires no external components.

The Z8 Encore! XP Series can perform tasks such as communication, control, status/event logging and system monitoring. The extra PWM can be used to drive a DC motor with over-current protection provided by the on-chip comparator. It is possible to interface with external sensors using the high resolution Sigma/Delta ADC, which supports differential inputs and chopping. The 8-pin device can be used for dedicated battery charging applications or the SOIC and SSOP 8/20/28 pin device packages can optimize a design.
