Having a look at the simplified top-level value proposition of RZ/T2M. Note that the high-end version of RZ/T2M comes with two 800MHz CPU cores. The main CPU is dedicated for motor control. It contains 576kB of tightly coupled memory (TCM). Access to TCM is extremely fast as there are no wait states introduced. Furthermore, this CPU is connected internally via a low latency bus to the motor control peripherals. These peripherals include pulse-width-modulators, delta sigma interfaces, 12-bit analog-to-digital converters as well as trigonometric accelerators and encoder interfaces. The latter supports a multitude of encoder interface standards, ensuring that a broad market can be addressed. The second CPU and its peripherals serve two other features of RZ/T2M. First, the second Core runs the Industrial Ethernet stacks, which interacts with the Industrial Ethernet subsystem to provide best-in-class Industrial Ethernet support. All major Industrial Ethernet standards are supported, such as PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP. In addition, the brand-new time sensitive networking standard (TSN) is supported, which is already a must have feature for market leading companies. The second CPU also interacts with the dedicated functional safety peripherals to realize extensive functional safety support. When using RZ/T2M, only one external safety MCU is needed to realize an SIL3 safety application. Most other solutions require two external MCUs to achieve the same. There is also an extensive software support for customer’s functional safety implementation, reducing additional efforts to a minimum. All RZ/T2M’s functional safety software is certified by TÜV and customers can build their safety applications based on the components provided by Renesas.
