Bourns Expands Line of
Surge Protective Device (SPD) Products
Bourns is pleased to announce the release of several new series of Surge Protective Devices which will
signifi cantly expand the current offering of this product line.
AC Surge Protective Devices
The Bourns® Model 1210 Series Heavy Duty AC SPD and 1250 Series General Duty AC SPD are two
new lines of DIN Rail mountable AC surge protective devices. These protectors are designed to be
installed close to sensitive equipment downstream from the main circuit breaker. Per UL 1449
requirements, these devices are Type 4 SPDs, designed to be installed into Type 2 applications. The
Model 1250 Series is a General Duty AC SPD with a maximum discharge current rating of 50 kA
(8/20 µs), whereas the Model 1210 Series is a Heavy Duty AC SPD with a maximum discharge current
rating of 100 kA (8/20 µs). Both series comply with standards UL 1449 3rd edition and IEC 616343-1.

DC Surge Protective Devices
The Bourns® Model 1320 Series DC Power SPD is a DIN Rail mountable SPD designed to protect
systems operating at 48, 75 and 110 Vdc. The Model 1320 Series has a maximum discharge current
rating of up to 40 kA (8/20 µs) and is recognized per UL 1449 3rd edition and IEC 61643-1.
The Bourns® Model 1420 Series DC Power SPD for photovoltaic applications is designed to protect
photovoltaic systems operating up to 1200 Vdc. This series incorporates a hybrid MOV/GDT design
which provides an enhanced level of protection and long term performance. The DIN Rail mountable
devices have a maximum lightning surge current rating of 40 kA (8/20 µs) per pole and are
recognized to UL 1449 3rd edition and IEC 61643-1 requirements.

Coaxial Surge Protective Devices
The Bourns® Model 1977 High Frequency Coaxial SPD Series of high performance, coaxial SPDs are
designed to protect antennas, broadband, microwave, GPS, cellular and CATV installations against
surges caused by lightning and other electrical transients. This series incorporates GDT technology,
providing a fl at response over a 5 GHz frequency range. The Model 1977 is water resistant and
available with N or F-type connectors.

Signal and Data Line Surge Protective Devices
The Bourns® Model 1500 Series Gigabit Ethernet SPD is designed to protect highly-exposed Gigabit
Ethernet equipment from the effects of lightning and other transients. The Model 1500 Series design
incorporates the Bourns® TBU® High-Speed Protector technology providing an enhanced level of
protection and performance. The series is offered in a grounded version as well as an isolated
version for installations where no ground is available. The Model 1500 Series is listed per
UL 497B requirements.
